5th Grade 3rd Annual Career Day
The fifth grade class of Haskin Elementary had its third annual Career Day in Alamosa on April 22. The Career Day completed the career exploration unit presented during my class visits in February, March and April. Haskin students from Kindergarten though Fifth learned they have the most important job of all, that of a student. Their job as a students is the foundation of all future jobs they will hold. The job of a student holds job responsibilities like any other job in the world of work. Students need to learn to work with certain tools, they have a dress code, they need to learn to get along with different bosses and fellow students, they have to be on time and prepared, etc.. There are not many things more important in a child's life than the life preparation afforded them as their job as a student.

The fifth grade students visited Stohlquist Water Wear Factory, San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center and Adams State College.
Students could easily see career plans would be on a dead end street without at least a high school diploma. Our day ended being treated by Center Schools to lunch at McDonalds. Hopefully a vision to the future was planted. |
Each location shared with students the job opportunities available and education/training each required.
