We are officially hitting that high-octane part of the year where the winter chill meets the heat of post-season competition. The energy in the halls is buzzing, the stakes are rising, and the passion of our athletes is on full display. We had a BIG WEEKEND, and the fireworks are just getting started. I have some incredible news to share, so settle in—it’s about to get exciting! 🤼 A State Medalist and New Beginnings 🥉 All Hail the Champ! A massive, Viking-sized Congratulations to Michael Archuleta! After claiming the Regional Championship in Akron, Michael went on to secure a 3rd Place podium finish at State this past weekend! Michael’s success is no accident; it is the direct result of relentless hard work and a refusal to back down when the lights were brightest. He has represented Center with elite class and grit. I’ve said it to him personally, and I’ll say it to the world: You are the baddest man on the planet, Michael! We are so proud of you. > Special Event: We will be holding a special celebration for Michael between the Boys and Girls basketball games this Tuesday night. Come out and show him the appreciation he deserves! > 🏀 Basketball: The Road to Glory Begins Now! Our High School Basketball programs are charging into District play with the SLV League Tournament this week! Both our Boys and Girls teams secured a solid 4th place seed, which means playoff basketball is coming to our home court. The Stage is Set for Tuesday Night: * Girls: 5:00 PM vs. the Trinidad Miners * Boys: 6:30 PM vs. Custer County This is more than just a game—it’s a battle for survival. These contests are high-stakes, "win-or-go-home" drama! A victory on Tuesday propels us into Sanford on Thursday night, and big wins this weekend are crucial for our seeding as we look toward Regionals. We need every single fan in those bleachers. Let’s make the gym roar and show everyone what home-court advantage really looks like! 💪💪 Middle School Wrestling Starts NOW! As one chapter closes, another begins! Middle School Wrestling kicks off this week. We have a fantastic group of young athletes ready to hit the mat, with our first tournaments taking place this weekend. The future of our wrestling program is bright, and the enthusiasm surrounding this group is contagious! 🏈 THE WAIT IS OVER: Meet Your New Football Coaches! After a meticulous and lengthy search, I am thrilled to announce that we have found our leaders for the gridiron! Please join me in giving a massive welcome to our Viking Athletic Family: * Head Coach: Zaire Banner * Head Assistant Coach: Cole Webb This is a monumental step forward for our football program as we transition into this new era. We will be officially introducing Coach Banner and Coach Webb to the community during the break between the Girls and Boys basketball games on Tuesday. Come meet the men who will be leading our Vikings on Friday nights! We are also working to have them available for the next VAA Meeting taking place the first Monday in March. (HINT! HINT! PLEASE JOIN US AT THE VAA MEETING!) 👟 Spring is in the Air Even as we wrap up the winter, the cycle of excellence continues. High School Baseball and Track & Field practices begin this week! There is nothing like the first crack of the bat or the first time cleats hit the track. We are looking forward to an awesome spring season filled with personal bests and championship runs. A Heartfelt Wrap-Up A quick shout-out to our Middle School Girls Basketball program led by Coach Whalen and her staff. They did a fantastic job this season, and the growth we saw in those young athletes was truly inspiring. While we would have loved to finish with every team fully intact, the "injury bug" and some eligibility hurdles played a role—but that’s sports. It builds character, and these girls showed plenty of it. 🌟 The AD's Closing Thought As we head into this pivotal week, remember that champions aren't just made by the trophies they hold, but by the resilience they show when the pressure is on. Day 1 update from the CHSAA State Wrestling Tournament: At 120 pounds, Michael Archuleta went 2-0 on the day and has advanced to the semifinals tomorrow morning. With a win, Michael will punch his ticket to the State Championship match on Saturday evening! Let’s keep it rolling 💪🏼🤼‍♂️

🔥 STATE WRESTLING UPDATE 🔥 At 120 lbs, Michael Archuleta gets it done with a tech fall over Jaymen Lopez from Burlington in the 2nd round! He advances to the quarterfinals where he’ll face Tracer White out of Mancos later this afternoon. Keep it rolling, Michael! 💪🤼‍♂️

Center Families-

In response to concerns shared by students, families, and School Board members, we will implement a student advocacy reporting form. A student may complete a Google Form to alert the school administration of Vapes, Alcohol, or dangerous weapons being carried by other Center students. This includes transportation and any other school-sponsored activity. The reporting form can be found on the district webpage under students/parents drop down list as "Advocacy Reporting Form".

A student can choose to do this anonymously or submit their name. If a student's report results in an infraction, they will be issued 100 Viking Bucks.
